"Despondency - another band that makes Louisiana great" Eternal Frost #4
| |||||||||||
| The Louisiana atmospheric death metal band Despondency was formed in the early
1990's as an answer to the death/doom metal boom overseas. Melding elements of many different influences ranging from Cemetary to Amorphis to Crematory to Morbid Angel, by 1996 their electric live shows drew big crowds without even a demo under their belt. However, the band was never able to gain noteriety outside of the Acadiana area and was put on hiatus in 1997 due to internal problems. In June 1998, guitarist Jonathan Joubert decided to reincarnate Despondency under the moniker "Dark Eden" with himself as the sole original member. Later on, it was decided that Despondency should reform, having Dark Eden remain a doom/death sideproject, with a new lineup featuring Jonathan on lead guitar, Jeremy Whitman on vocals, Jesse on bass guitar, Garrett on rhythm guitar and Greg on drums (the lineup for Dark Eden has yet to be decided). By late summer three new songs had been written and several old ones perfected. As of now, Despondency is looking forward to their first show which sould hopefully come around Halloween. Be ready.
